Going
to relatives by dragon boat: In
the regions with rivers and lakes, it is
a folk custom to go and visit relatives
or neighbors by dragon boat, which and hardly
be found elsewhere.
Western Han Nanyue King Tomb Museum
: Discovered in 1983, the Nanyue King Tomb,
which dates back to 2,000 years ago, is
the earliest large-scale painted stone-chamber
tomb ever found in south of the Five Ridges.
Buried with the tomb owner in jade shroud
are a gold seal and a lot of exquisite jade
adornments. It has now become one of the
famous museums in the world.
Guangxiao Temple:
The Guangxiao Temple is One of the four
famous temples in Guangdong Province, it
has a history of 1,500 years. The temple
enjoys a very important position in the
Buddhist history in China. Many famous monks
from home and abroad have come to preach
here since the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420).
In the temple, there are the Mahavira Hall,
Sleeping Buddha statue, bodhi trees and
East and West Iron Pagodas.
Temple of Southern
Sea God: Temple of Southern Sea
God stuated at Miaotou, Huangpu district,
it is an important site that has witnessed
the history of sea transport in ancient
China. It was built in the Sui Dynasty in
594, also called Bolu Temple. The temple
was renovated and expanded several times
and the marine Silk Road staring from here
can reach southeast Asia, west Asia, east
African, Europe and America.
The Temple of The
Six Banyan Trees and Flower Pagoda:
Situated on the Liurong Road, it is a renowned
Buddhist cultural site. Built in 537, the
temple enshrines three large Buddhist statues,
the biggest copper Buddhist statues existing
in Guangdong Province. The Flower Pagoda
has 9 storeys viewing from the outside,
17 storeys viewing from inside. The thousand-Buddha
copper pillar cast in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368)
is kept on the top storey of the pagoda.
Whampoa Military
Academy: The academy officially
opened on June 16, 1924, during the first
cooperation between the Kuomintang and the
Communist Party of China. It was founded
by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, with the help of the
Communist Party of China and former Soviet
Union, to train military officers. Situated
on the Changzhou Island of Huangpu (Whampoa),
hence the name.
Sun Yat-sen Memorial
Hall: As a famous commemorative
structure of Chinese revolution built in
1931, it was designed by the well-known
architect of modern China Lu Yanzhi, who
was also The Designer of Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum
in Nanjing. The building complex is composed
of the arch over the gateway, the auditorium
and the stoteyed buildings on its eastside
and westside. The auditorium is octagonal
in the shape of the palace hall.
With big vermilion pillars, yellow bricks
and sapphire-blue glazed tiles, the complex
looks splendid and magnificent. There are
4,700seats in the spacious auditorium, with
is beamless and produces no echo. the interior
is decorated with paintings and patterns
of strong national features. In front of
it there stands the statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.
