Hari Raya Aidilfitri
Open House 6 January
Celebrated by Muslims on the first day
of the month of Syawal, this is the most joyous
of Muslims celebrations. Marking the end of Ramadhan,
the fasting month, Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Hari
Raya Puasa is the time for family reunions. Special
prayers are held in mosque throughout the country
and families visit graves of departed members
to offer special prayers. Open house is held by
His Majesty, the King of Malaysia and government
leaders for the public at large as well as by
the Muslim community for friends and relatives.While
other states leaders held its open house on the
following dates : i) Penang on January 6, 2001
at Kampung Seronok, Bayan Lepas
February :
Thaipusam
7 February The Thaipusam celebration is
one of Malaysias many festivals - symbolising
the multi ethnicity of the country. This year,
Thaipusam (celebrated on the 10th month of the
Hindu calender) falls on the 7th of February.
Hindu devotees will flock the well-known Batu
Caves in Selangor for this day of penance and
thanksgiving. And every year, tourists too will
not miss this opportunity to witness the procession
of Kavadis and other traditions related to Thaipusam.

Mega Sale Carnival 3 March - 1 April
The third leg of the nationwide shopping extravaganza
featuring local and international products at
very competitive prices. Highlights of the carnival
include a Made in Malaysia Exhibition and the
Malaysian Fashion Week, where local designers,display

host midnight sales and specialist stores offer
excellent promotions in gold, jewellery, watches

International Travel Fair 6 April -
8 April With MITF 2000 in the Malaysia Book
of Records as the biggest travel fair ever recording
more than 68,000 visitors, 500 travel booths and
23 National Tourist Organisations from all over
the world. It would be a waste if you miss this

Colours
Of Malaysia 26 May - 24 June Malaysia
celebrates the vibrant cultures, arts and traditions
of its multi-ethnic population during this month
long festival. One of the highlights of this distinctive
celebration is a grand parade, themed Citrawarna
Malaysia or Colours of Malaysia. It is held
in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city. The ethnic
groups from various states of Malaysia proudly
display their colourful and original traditional
costumes in this parade. Traditional dance and
music performances are held throughout the month
at a variety of venues. Every state has its own
celebration, bringing out the best of that states
traditional art, culture, food and festive attire.
June :
Labuan
International Sea Challenge 1 June -
3 June The Labuan Sea Challenge beckons watersports
enthusiasts for the three exciting competitions
held during this annual event. The Underwater
Treasure Hunt, the Big Game Fishing Tournament
and the Jetsport Challenge attract keen participation
and spectators from around the globe. Inthe Underwater
Treasure Hunt, divers must retrieve tokens that
have been spread over the sites of four shipwrecks
near Labuan and the surrounding reefs. Held over
a 10-day period in May each year, the Labuan Sea
Challenge offers fun, excitement and attractive
prizes.
