Kuala
Lumpur International Towerthon 30 July
The highest staircase run in Asia, this event
begins with runners making an 800-meter steep
uphill dash to the base of Menara Kuala Lumpur
before the energy-sapping climb up 2058 steps
to conquer the worlds fourth tallest communication
tower at the Tower Head.
August :
National
Day 31 August This aupicious day
for all Malaysians begins with a spectacular parade
in the morning along the streets of Kuala Lumpur,
the capital city, graced by the presence of His
Majesty, the King of Malaysia, and government
leaders.Participants in the parade comprise members
from the public and private sectors, the armed
forces, non-governmental organisations, school
children and representatives from a wide segment
of multi-racial Malaysia.Colourful and energetic
performances celebrating Malaysia's achievements
are held at the Dataran Merdeka or Merdeka Square.The
Jalur Gemilang, the national flag, is flown throughout
the country at office buildings, private homes
and on vehicles to mark the occasion.Sporting
events, competitions, exhibitions and cultural
performances are held in the various states.

Tourism Carnival 1 - 2 September

October :
Mooncake
Festival 1 October A colourful,
traditional festival of the Chinese community,
Moon Cake Festival or the Mid-autumn Festival
is observed on the 15th day of the eight-month
of the Lunar calendar (1 Oct 2001). The excitement
builds up weeks before the day, with the appearance
of colourful paper lanterns in a wide variety
of shapes and designs in shops and supermarkets,
as well as the traditional 'moon cakes' (pie-like
cakes with fillings of sweet lotus seed, red beans
or other innovations).
The nights come alive with children carrying colourful
lanterns of myriad design and forms. Although
Chinese celebrate this festival all over the world,
the Malaysian version is unique as it involves
other ethnic groups, reflecting the multi-racial
harmony of the country.
November :
Deepavali
Open House 14 November Deepavali
or the Festival of Light symbolises the triumph
of good over evil. It is celebrated on the 7th
month of the Hindu calendar. This is a time for
thanksgiving and the traditional cleansing that
precedes the festivities and prayers at temples
and household altars on Deepavali day. During
this time, Hindu houses are adorned with lights
and oil lamps to signify the triumph over the
forces of darkness. In typical Malaysian fashion,
many people hold open houses to entertain friends
and relatives. A generous spread of delicious
food is served with a wide variety of traditional
Indian sweets and savouries. As a festival representative
of the Hindu community, a Deepavali Open House
will be held on November 19 at Penangs Little
India.
December :
Hari
Raya Aidilfitri 16 - 17 December
Celebrated by Muslims on the first day of the
month of Syawal, this is the most joyous of Muslim
celebrations in Malaysia. Marking the end of Ramadhan,
the fasting month, Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Hari
Raya Puasa is the time for family reunions. Special
prayers are held in mosque throughout the country
and families visit graves of family members to
offer prayers. Open house is held by His Majesty,
the King of Malaysia, government leaders and also
by almost all Muslims.
